Vaccination Requirements

There is justifiable concern over the risks associated with over-vaccination, with a good deal of evidence to show that there may well be health issues associated with over-frequent vaccination.

Vaccination Frequency for the Core Vaccines

The good news is that the core vaccines - distemper, adenovirus (hepatitis) and parvovirus give an immunity of at least three years; therefore after the primary course has been administered to puppies it isn't necessary to re-vaccinate against the core diseases for a futher three years.

Parainfluenza and Bordatella

Parainfluenza is only effective for a year and Intrac, for bordatella (kennel cough), is effective for a minimum of 6 months, although the manufacturers do not recommend a re-vaccination schedule. There are annual boosters that combine the parainfluenza and kennel cough vaccine.

Our Requirements

To board at Hill Farm Kennels, we require the core vaccine (distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus) to be boosted every three years and the parainfluenza and bordatella combined vaccine to be boosted annually, at the owner's discretion. If you choose not to protect against parainfluenza and kennel cough, that is your choice and any veterinary bills should your dog contract kennel cough will be paid by the owner and not the kennels.
